Pet-Toxic Indoor Plants

A big question we get when customers are shopping for a new indoor plant is what can be toxic to my dog or cat? Unfortunately, any plant your furry friend might snack on can become hazardous to their health, but there are a few specific indoor plants we carry that contain certain chemicals that can cause nausea, vomiting, oral burns, liver damage, among others. Please always use caution when introducing new plants into the home if you have a curious pet.

Houseplants toxic to cats and dogs that we typically carry:

Elephant ear

Pothos

Aloe

Dieffenbachia

Dracaena

English Ivy

Jade

Mother of Millions

Peace Lily

Philodendron

Bird of Paradise

Snake Plant

Spider Plant

Sago Palm

Again, very important: These plants contain certain chemicals that, when ingested by cats and dogs, can cause oral burns, inability to swallow, nausea, diarrhea, and potential liver damage. Please do your own research or talk with your vet before introducing new plants into your home when pets are present.
